Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuireMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
4.5 stars
I thought this book was going to be the exact same book as the first just Travis' point of view. I guess that was a stupid thought :) but this book was so needed to understand the way Travis was. His unexplainable need in Beautiful Disaster for Abby or Pigeon as he referred to her. The book didn't have a lot of dialogue. You had to read the first book to know definitely what was going on. I always wondered why he came up with the nickname Pigeon. It doesn't seem like a compliment. Apparently, it was and Abby didn't mind. Travis finally explains:
"I decided a long time ago I would feed on the vultures until a dove came along. A pigeon. The kind if soul that didn't impede in anyone; just walked around worrying about its own business; trying to get through life without pulling everyone else down with its own needs and selfish habits. Brave. A communicator. Intelligent. Beautiful. Soft-spoken. A creature that mates for life. Unattainable until she has a reason to trust you."
Wow! He fell hard for her in the beginning when he had no clue about her. Without thinking about it. That's what he called her. He found love and didn't even know it.
Even in the beginning his feelings were so strong and he didn't want to admit it because he didn't want her to go away. He was afraid she would leave him. Finally, he admitted his feelings to Shep.
"I have feelings for her. I care about her. A lot. I can't stand it when she's not around."
Ahhhh Shep and America. They made me laugh. America was rooting for them all along. Shep was so in love with America he didn't want Travis to screw anything up...and Travis screwed up a lot. But luckily, Shep and America got through it with only a few hiccups down the road.
I love Travis' love for Abby. It seemed really extreme in Beautiful Disaster, but it was definitely explained.
"I've wanted you for so long, Abby. You're all I want."
You never questioned Travis' love for Abby.
"That was some first kiss," she said with a tired contented expression. I scanned her face and smiled. "Your last first kiss." <---- swooooon!!
Him finally telling her he loved her.
"I know we're f*ed up, all right? I'm impulsive and hot tempered, and you get under my skin like no one else. You act like you hate me one minute, and then you need me the next. I never get anything right, and I don't deserve you...but I f*ing love you, Abby. I love you more than I've loved anyone or anything, ever. When you're around, I don't need booze or money or the fighting or the one-night stands...all I need is you. You're all I think about. You're all I dream about. You're all I want."
"If there was a woman made for me...it's you."
Ahhhh and finally she comes to her senses and breaks up with Parker after denying her feelings for so long!!
"I can't see you at all, actually. I'm...pretty sure I'm in love with Travis."
Man, I think I'm about to quote the whole dang book!!
"You know why I want you? I didn't know I was lost until you found me. I didn't know what alone was until the first night I spent without you in my bed. You're the one thing I've got right. You're what I've been waiting for Pigeon."
Aghh and the saddest most heart breaking line in the whole book -- "the only woman I'd ever want to marry just broke my heart." Oh man if I didn't start bawling after reading that.
This was such an emotional read for me. I love reading the men's point of views because its rare men ever speak their mind or their true feelings.
The reason it didn't get 5 stars was because I really wanted more dialogue. I felt lost a few times because I couldn't remember all of the details from the first book. I can't wait for his brothers stories so I can get more Abby and Travis.
